Doom 2 (2025) – Official Trailer | Dwayne Johnson

Watch Trailer:

The Doom movie, starring Dwayne Johnson and Karl Urban, was released on October 21, 2005. The film was based on the legendary video game series but took significant creative liberties. It had a production budget of $60 million, largely spent on CGI, set designs, and practical creature effects to bring the Martian horror elements to life. Despite its high budget, it failed to become a box office success, grossing only $58 million worldwide, making it a commercial disappointment.

Plot Spoilers

The movie follows an elite military unit, the Rapid Response Tactical Squad (RRTS), sent to a UAC research facility on Mars after receiving a distress signal. The squad, led by Sarge (Dwayne Johnson) and John “Reaper” Grimm (Karl Urban), soon discovers that a genetic experiment gone wrong has turned the scientists into monstrous creatures.

As they investigate, they uncover a classified UAC project that involves a 24th chromosome—a genetic modification that either enhances a person’s abilities or turns them into a mutant depending on their moral nature. Reaper’s sister, Dr. Samantha Grimm, explains that the facility’s researchers had attempted to create superhumans but instead unleashed horrific creatures.

Throughout the film, Sarge becomes increasingly ruthless, prioritizing mission objectives over human life. As the situation spirals out of control, he orders the execution of civilians to prevent potential contamination. Eventually, he is infected by the 24th chromosome, turning into a superpowered antagonist.

In the final showdown, Reaper, who has also been enhanced but retains his humanity, engages in a brutal fight with Sarge, now a monstrous version of himself. The battle takes place in a confined hallway, reminiscent of the first-person perspective from the video games. Reaper ultimately defeats Sarge and destroys the facility, preventing further spread of the mutation.

Success Story & Reception

Despite its strong cast and visual effects, Doom was widely criticized for its deviation from the game’s core storyline, its lack of horror elements, and poor character development. However, it has since gained a cult following among sci-fi action fans.
